Located in the Iwato Gorge, within walking distance from Motoise Naigu Kotai Shrine, Amanoiwato Shrine is built along a river up on a boulder and was a an immensely spiritual site. It is believed to house gods, and there are stories in Shintoism that say Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun, secluded herself within this boulder for a period of time. Access to this shrine is quite easy, but there are numerous stairs that lead down to the river valley where it is located. It is a beautiful location that makes the visitor feel at one with nature.
