Kotohikihama Singing Sands Museum
The museum is dedicated to Kotohikihama Beach, which is located a short walk from the museum. The beach is well-known throughout Japan as the "singing sands" beach because of the high quartz content of the sand that makes noise when you walk on it. There are other beaches with these unique properties around the world, and the museum does a good job of showcasing sand throughout the world. In addition there are microscopes where you can look at sand close up, activity stations where you can make the sand sing (even if the weather isn't good for beach-going), sand and shell art on display, as well as other educational information.
